Summer Appeal

Dear YoMo Friend,

There’s a lot of talk these days about sustainability, in both environmental and economic contexts. We members of the YoMo board think a lot about sustainability, too, as we work to build a stable future for Yoga Mendocino. We never take that future for granted, and neither should you.

While there have been several encouraging developments in the last three months related to financial and human resources, we still have a long way to go to assure a strong future for YoMo. It’s up to all of us to make that happen.

As a non-profit, Yoga Mendocino depends on donations from those who value its classes and programs, beautiful studio, and many contributions to the community. To state the obvious, all of those things—place, people, programs—cost money; and class fees cover only about two-thirds of our expenses. And expenses don’t take a summer vacation!

YoMo’s staff and volunteers are the “engine” of its sustainability, as well as its heart and soul, along with our wonderful teachers. The past 18 months have been especially challenging for our dedicated part-time staff, who manage to do a lot with a little.

Currently, the combined hours of Iris Padgett (manager), Deborah Phillips
(administrative assistant), Liz Franzen (bookkeeper), and Maggie Miller (marketing assistant) total less than a single full-time employee. Strengthening and adequately compensating our fine staff is a top priority for the Board; but this can only happen if we can increase and stabilize YoMo’s income.

So even if you’ve already donated to YoMo this year, we ask you to consider making a tax-deductible donation in response to this summertime appeal. We suggest a gift of $50 to $100—or more!—but of course we’ll be grateful for whatever you can manage. You can easily donate online using your credit card; or you can mail your check to Yoga Mendocino at 206A Mason Street, Ukiah 95482. Please respond before Labor Day, if possible.

Thank you!
Susan Baird for the YoMo Board—with Kathy Brigham, Pauline Hurme, Cathy Monroe, Maggie Norton, Iris Padgett, and Carolyn Welch
