Spring Adventure Bazaars

Have fun, learn new skills and support YoMo!
 Wouldn’t it be great if someone created a unique experience that you could enjoy with friends or family or where you could meet new friends? Well that‘s exactly what Yoga Mendocino’s Adventure Bazaar offers you! Individuals in the YoMo community have crafted a series of distinctive hosted events for just 4 to 20 people, in which they invite you to participate. Just choose the events that suit you and sign up for one or more places.

There’s always a great selection: explore the joys of nature, art, food, music, self-care, or your inner life. You can enjoy educational, fun, and intriguing adventures and support Yoga Mendocino’s work in the community at the same time.

 #1   Finding Your Voice – Learn to Sing Confidently and Freely      Saturday, March 24  from 2:00-4:00 pm
Learning to generate sound and have control over it is a mystery to many. Well-known vocalist and teacher Sheridan Malone will start you on the path to singing with confidence. In a supportive small group, you’ll begin process of discovering how your wonderful wind instrument really works, and then taking steps to set free our yown true voice. In this workshop we’ll start with the basics of breathing, posture, and warm-ups to produce all kinds of sounds. We’ll then learn to resonate freely, gain range, power and color. Even if you’ve thought your entire life that you can’t sing, you will discover that, yes, you can.

 #2  Spring Hike at Leonard Lake
Sunday, April 8  starting at  12:15 pm to about 4:00
Enjoy a beautiful spring afternoon on a hike with Cathy Monroe exploring the 4,000 forested acres of the beautifully private and serene Leonard Lake Reserve, just north of Ukiah.  We will be hiking around the lake, a rambling yet easy hike among redwoods and fir that will take about 2 hours.  With luck, the calypso orchids will be blooming, along with numerous woodland wildflowers. We will take a couple of breaks on the walk where you can fuel up if you didn’t eat an early lunch. Please pack water, your snacks, and wear good hiking shoes.  Participants will meet at the base of the 101 grade at the shopping area of the old cookie factory, which now includes Mario’s Restaurant and Black Horse Tack, for carpooling at 12:15 p.m. Return to Mario’s will be at about 4:00pm.

# 3 Learn the Art of Bread Making from an Expert
Saturday, April 21 from around 9am
Join a good friend or your partner and immerse yourself in a private breadmaking class for two. Spend the day with Brenda Hoek learning the secrets to successful yeast baking. hand and mixer methods practiced. Start the day with a lesson in scone making and enjoy the result while planning your day of baking. There will be home made pizza for lunch. You will choose the breads to make and take home with their recipes.

 #4  Create a Your Own Custom Decorated Gourd
Saturday April 28 from 1pm – about 4pm
An introduction to decorating the world’s oldest portable container.  We will begin with coffee/tea and an examination of several decorated gourds and books containing even more examples.  Then you will pick your gourd and begin to paint/paste/cut/burn away.  Everything will be provided, including instruction in the use of various tools.  Bring only your imagination.  Presented by Kathy Brigham and a mysterious surprise gourd artist.

 #5  Bird Walk, led by Expert Birders from Peregrine Audubon   Friday, May 11 from 8:00-10:00am at the UWTP ponds
Whether you are a novice or intermediate birder, you will enjoy the spectacular migrating and resident bird population to be seen at the 3 ponds at the Ukiah Waste Water Treatment Plant. Local bird experts from the Peregrine Audubon Society will lead us in a walk to observe the birds, aided by their strong spotting scopes. Peregrineaudubon.org says that “at the UWTP you can probably see more species of birds in less time than anywhere else in the Ukiah Valley.” We’ll gather for a tailgate snack of coffee and muffins at 8:00am. Don’t forget your binoculars!

#6    An Introduction to Mindfulness Exercises
Saturday, May 19 from 1:00-3:00pm
This two-hour introductory session is an informal afternoon of conversation and instruction in basic mindfulness techniques. Taught by Elise Gottherts and Beth Howell, it is for those who are curious about mindfulness and want to understand how it works. Discover why so many people around the world are embracing mindfulness. You will experience how to quiet the mind and be more attentive and aware, how to be more resilient, and how to be more responsive, less reactive! Being mindful in everyday activities will be explored, such as mindful eating, walking and listening. Current studies and research on how mindfulness affects the mind and body will be discussed. The morning will start with brief yoga stretching and a short chanting session to help facilitate presence in the body. Come see what being mindful in everyday life is all about!

#  7  Gain Insight from a Private Tarot Reading
Saturday June 2 by individual appointment
Tarot cards are a way of asking a question of your Higher Self. The cards in a spread arrange themselves into a story that can be helpful in giving you insight into issues and events occurring in your life, or in helping you understand what your deeper self is trying to tell you. Lee Lory Pratt, a retired Jungian psychologist, long-time attendee at YOMO and professional tarot card reader will be offering private individual readings at YOMO on June 2 at 12:30, 1:45 & 3:00pm.

#8  Make Your Own Will or Trust
Each individual session will be scheduled at your convenience
Kathy Brigham will introduce you to on-line resources that provide low cost estate- planning documents.  She will walk you through the process of creating your documents on-line and transferring your property into a trust.  She will also provide you with sample documents. Kathy is not an attorney but will refer you to one if needed. This adventure may be conducted at your office or home using your computer but other arrangements can be made.

         Each Adventure is scheduled for a specific day and time and has a fixed price and a fixed number of places. Buyers can purchase one, a few, or all of the places in an Adventure. Please share the catalog with your friends; or why not put together a group to share the experience? Everyone is welcome to come to these Adventures.
         YoMo Adventures will be on sale until each event is filled. You can either sign-up in the Adventure Bazaar Sign-up Book at the studio, call us at 462-2580 or email your reservation to yomo@pacific.net. (Please include the number and name of the Adventure and your name and phone number in your email.)  Each place at an event is considered ‘sold’ as soon as YoMo has received a sign-up.  Emailed reservations will be recorded in the sign-up book when received.  You will be notified if an event is already fully subscribed.
       When you sign up for an Adventure at the studio, if possible, please pay for it when you sign up. Payment for all Adventures will be due the week before your adventure date. You can pay by cash, check or credit card. (Checks are preferred).

There are NO REFUNDS for non-attendance. However, if you sign up for an event and are unable to attend, you can give or sell your space to a friend.  Please let YoMo know if you are going to transfer your reservation so that your host can be notified.
